We have collected the most common questions that customers ask us before purchase, during installation, and while using IR heating. If you don't find an answer, call us – consultation is free.
IR heating directly heats objects and walls in the room, not the air. When the heated walls and objects themselves emit heat, a pleasant, evenly warm environment is created – similar to the sun warming us on a cold winter day. Classic convective heating (radiators, underfloor heating) first heats the air, which rises to the ceiling and is unevenly distributed throughout the room.
IR heating works excellently in well-insulated spaces: new buildings, renovated apartments, and houses with at least 10–15 cm of thermal insulation. It also performs excellently in bathrooms, offices, brick-built weekend homes, and commercial premises. It is less suitable for poorly insulated older buildings without renovation, where heat loss is too high.
Depends on the building and your needs. We often install Ekosen systems as the sole source of heating for the entire house – this works excellently in new builds and well-renovated properties. IR panels are also an excellent solution for supplemental heating of specific rooms (bathroom, guest room, office) where the primary system does not achieve sufficient comfort.
No – IR panels have no moving parts, fans, or burners, so they operate completely silently. This is one of the reasons why they are particularly popular in bedrooms and offices, where silence is important.
Yes. The surface of the panels heats up to 70–95°C, which is warm enough for effective radiation, but will not cause burns with a brief touch. We recommend installation on the ceiling or high on a wall, out of reach of children. The IR radiation emitted by the panels is long-wave (far infrared) – the same as natural body heat – and is completely safe for humans, animals, and plants.
No. This is one of the most common misconceptions. Since IR heating does not circulate air and does not directly heat the air, air humidity remains natural. It is suitable for allergy sufferers, asthmatics, and people with sensitive respiratory tracts – without raising dust and allergens.
Ceiling mounting ensures the most even heat distribution throughout the entire room and is our primary recommendation. Wall mounting is more suitable when ceiling mounting is not feasible (e.g., in rooms with steel structures, underfloor heating, or countertop tables). Both positions work efficiently – wall mounting only requires slightly more precise positioning regarding retention zones.
Installation is quick and clean. The panel is attached to the ceiling or wall with a mounting frame (included in the package), connected to a standard 230V socket or directly to the electrical wiring. No construction work, no excavation, no boiler room is needed. Typical installation of a single panel takes 30–60 minutes.
Anyone skilled in basic tasks can perform the installation. The electrical connection (230V) must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable regulations. Ekosen also offers a comprehensive installation service – we visit you, perform the installation, and set up the system's operation. For larger systems, we recommend our professional visit.
Guideline: 1 W of IR power per 1 liter of room volume in a standard insulated building. For calculating the exact power and panel arrangement for your building, we recommend free consultation – we take into account surface area, height, insulation, windows, and your lifestyle.
For smaller systems (up to 2–3 panels), the existing wiring is often sufficient. For a larger system, it is advisable to check the capacity of the fuse box and add separate circuits if necessary. An electrician will quickly assess this during an inspection. Ekosen provides technical consultation for this.
Yes, and this is often an optimal solution for wall mounting - a panel under the window compensates for cold air coming through the glass and prevents condensation on the window panes.
Consumption depends on the panel's power and operating time. A 500W panel consumes 0.5 kWh of electricity in one hour. Since IR panels operate in cycles (turning on and off with a thermostat), the actual operating time is typically 30–50% of the total heating time. With an IR Sun controller with precise PWM regulation, this proportion is even lower.
In a well-insulated house (90–100 kWh/m²/year) with IR heating, we estimate 70–120 € per month during the heating season, depending on electricity prices and living habits. Actual consumption from our customers' experience is often lower when the system is well-regulated with an IR Sun thermostat.
Depending on energy prices and building insulation. For well-insulated buildings and current natural gas and electricity prices, costs are comparable or in favor of IR – without the costs of boiler maintenance, chimney, annual services, and alarm systems. With the transition to own solar energy, IR heating becomes significantly more affordable.
Yes - IR Sun is the only controller designed specifically for IR systems. With precise PWM regulation (not on/off switching), it maintains temperature with minimal fluctuations and reduces unnecessary panel operation. Our customers report 20–30% lower consumption compared to generic thermostat systems.
Absolutely. IR heating is electric and combines perfectly with solar systems – during the day, the panels run on their own solar energy, which drastically reduces costs. This is a combination increasingly seen in new and renovated buildings.
We offer a 15-year warranty on the heating element for all Ekosen IR panels. This is one of the longest warranties on the market and reflects confidence in the quality of our own production.
Ekosen IR panels are designed to operate for 30+ years. Since they have no moving parts and require no maintenance, wear and tear is minimal. The Ni-Cr (nickel-chromium) heating element we use is the same as those in the industrial segment.
Practically nothing. We recommend an annual check of operation (controllers, connections) and wiping the surface with a damp cloth. No servicing, no boiler room, no chimney, no annual inspections required by law.
Given the 15-year warranty, you can claim it free of charge at Ekosen. In case of failure outside the warranty period, replacement is simple – the panel is detached and a new one is installed. Since the system is not dependent on a single central boiler, the failure of one panel does not mean no heating in the entire house.
The CE certificate is mandatory for sale in the EU and confirms that the panel meets safety standards. In addition to the CE certificate, Ekosen panels also have their own quality control in production, which exceeds minimal requirements.
Both panels are identical in quality and technology - they differ in dimensions and IP protection. ONE is smaller and thinner (IP44), ONE IDEAL is larger and thicker with IP65 protection, which means it is suitable for wetter environments. Neither is an "upgraded version" of the other – they are different versions for different room needs.
ONE with IP44 is suitable for bathrooms where there is no direct contact with water (outside zones 1 and 2 according to IEC 60364-7-701 standard). For bathrooms with a wetter environment or for installation closer to the shower cabin, we recommend ONE IDEAL with IP65.
TAG is designed for larger rooms with higher ceilings – business premises, offices, conference rooms, workshops, and larger living rooms. It is available in high power (up to 2000W+), which allows efficient heating of spacious rooms with one or two panels.
TAG is primarily a ceiling panel, but it can also be installed on the wall with an appropriate mounting solution. We recommend ceiling mounting for optimal coverage of the heating zone.
Yes – ART has the same heating technology as the rest of the Sunlife line, except that the panel surface features a print of your choice. The image or motif does not affect performance, does not fade, and does not burn out.
Yes. We print your motif on the ART panel: a photograph, illustration, logo, or any graphic element. Minimum resolution for quality printing: 150 DPI at the actual panel size.
Yes – MIRROR is a fully functional mirror (reflection temperature identical to a normal mirror) and at the same time a full-fledged IR panel. It is suitable for bathrooms, changing rooms, and hallways.
No. This is one of the key advantages of the MIRROR panel – because the mirror is part of the heating surface, it does not fog up even in high humidity in the bathroom. No separate mirror heating from the system is required.
The DESIGN panel is designed for spaces where aesthetics are key – hotels, spas, receptions, luxury apartments. It is available in various colors and finishes (matte, gloss, stone) that match the architectural design of the space.
DESK is a panel for targeted workspace heating – it attaches under the desk or to the side surface of the desk and warms the legs and lower body. Ideal for offices where the general temperature is lower or where an individual desires personal comfort.
ONE K+ has built-in rock wool as a thermal accumulator. This means that the panel stores heat and radiates it evenly even after being switched off. It is suitable for rooms where prolonged heat emission is desired without constant operation (e.g., a bedroom at night).
Yes – TABLE is a free-standing panel on legs that you simply plug into a socket. It is designed for targeted heating of workstations, conference tables, or local heating in offices. No installation, no fastening required.
VARMA is an outdoor version for fixed installation on a terrace, canopy, or facade. VARMA MOBILE is the same heating technology in a portable version on a stand – suitable for a restaurant terrace, covered entrance, or any space where permanent installation is not possible.
Yes. VARMA has IP65 protection - completely sealed against dust and protected against water jets from all directions. It operates without problems at outdoor temperatures down to -20°C.
Heat is present immediately upon switching on - you feel it directly under the panel within 30–60 seconds. Unlike convective heaters, you don't wait for the air to heat up – IR radiation heats you and surfaces directly.
No – VARMA MOBILE connects to a standard 230V socket. We recommend a protected outdoor socket (IP44 or higher).
SUN F is a panel with a protective mesh (anti-corrosion version) for industrial and demanding environments – workshops, warehouses, processing plants, agricultural facilities. The robust design withstands mechanical impacts and is resistant to aggressive atmospheric conditions.
Yes – SUN F is designed to operate in cold industrial or agricultural spaces where the ambient temperature drops below 0°C. There are no specific temperature limitations for operation.
IR Sun is a controller developed specifically for IR heating systems. Regular thermostats operate on an on/off system – they turn on full power when the temperature drops below a set value and turn it off when it reaches it. IR Sun uses PWM regulation (frequency modulation), which maintains a precise temperature without fluctuations during cooling and heating. Result: less operation, less consumption, greater comfort.
Yes – IR Sun has a WiFi module and an app for Android and iOS. You can manage temperature, schedules, and operation from anywhere. It also supports remote activation before arriving home.
IR Sun is designed and optimized for Ekosen IR panels. Technically, it is also compatible with other IR panels, but we recommend a combined solution for guaranteed operation and support.
One IR Sun regulates one temperature circuit (one room). For different rooms with separate regulation, you need a separate IR Sun for each room or zone.
Yes. Eko Sklad – the Slovenian Environmental Public Fund – issues non-repayable incentives for replacing old heating systems with more efficient ones. IR heating, if conditions are met (replacement of a fossil fuel boiler), can qualify for a subsidy. Ekosen helps you check eligibility and prepare documentation.
Yes – when purchasing through Ekosen, installment payments are available via Leanpay and eco-credit. This way, the investment is accessible without a single large outlay.
It is possible to order a panel directly, but we recommend at least a brief conversation with our advisor – free and without obligation. Together, we will check which panels and what power are suitable for your property to avoid under- or over-performance of the system.
Ekosen has showrooms in Ljubljana, Maribor, and Koper. At the showroom, you can see the panels live, get a demonstration of their operation, and talk to an advisor without an appointment.
Every property is specific, so our advisors prepare a free energy calculation that accurately predicts how the system will operate in your home. Start with real data.
